Hugo's workshop is buzzing with the crafting of custom snowboards in the summer months. Recently, we've had the pleasure of designing and building unique boards for Steve Fairbairn and Kevin McCarty.
The Pink Panther: Steve's Vision
Steve, a longtime supporter of Moonchild Snowboards, brought us an exciting challenge: to blend the nimbleness of our Malibu with the edge stability of the SpaceRacer. His extensive background in surfing and snowboarding provided us with valuable insights.
Design Goals:
- Size: 158-159 cm with a 27.4/27.5 cm waist to prevent boot-out.
- Construction: Added carbon strips for enhanced torsional rigidity.
- Tail: A small fish tail inspired by surf legend Mark Richards shapes.
- Graphics: Pink topsheet featuring a Pink Panther graphic and a fluorescent yellow base with a pink Moonchild logo.
Steve's passion and detailed feedback guided our process. We're excited to see his vision come to life and can’t wait for his feedback on the slopes!
Kevin's Ultimate Pow Board
Kevin approached us with the idea to merge his favorite features from various powder swallowtails into one ultimate board. He loves the shape and stiffness of the Korua 156 Dart Plus, especially its durability and stability, but also appreciates the tight sidecuts of Gentem boards.
Design Goals:
-
Dimensions:
- Length: ~156 cm
- Edge: ~1200 mm
- Nose Width: 322 mm
- Waist: 269-272 mm
- Tail Width: 294 mm
- Sidecut: 6900-8000 mm
- Setback: 40-44 mm
- Taper: 28 mm
- Stance Width: 565 mm (22.25 inches)
- Features: Classic surf-style swallowtail, stiff construction to prevent nose folding, edge to the end of the tail, and minimal tail rise.
Kevin, an amazing graphic designer, created the graphics for his board. He's also contributed to the designs of some of our other boards, including the handmade Space Racer on the picture. Kevin requested additional boards for his wife and friends, leading us to produce them in various lengths and color combinations.
Bringing Visions to Life
These custom projects showcase our commitment to tailoring boards to the unique needs and visions of our customers. We're thrilled to bring Steve and Kevin's ideas to life and can't wait to see them in action. Stay tuned for more updates from our workshop at Hugo!
